Here is a unique piece of Art Deco from 1932. It is a globe in relief showing the continents. When the axis of the globe is locked in place all you need to do is twist the globe and the lighter pops open. There is no lighter fluid in it so the flame test will be for the new owner. The lighter-unit is a cylinder. There is a screw on the bottom that holds the unit into the globe. Remove the screw and the cylinder unit slides right out. There are two additional screws on the bottom for the fuel and the flint. There is some scuffing on the Pacific Ocean side of the globe, but otherwise this item seems to be in very good condition.
The following verbiage is from a 1932 ad for this item:
"Light O' the World automatic table lighter, a perfect miniature reproduction of the Globe with the continents in full relief to show the contours of the earth. Mounted upon its axis so that, when the Globe is revolved the lighter-unit operates automatically. Substantially wrought in heavy metal. Stand 5 1/4 inches in height on a handsome pedestal; overall diameter 3 3/4 inches. Richly finished in Butler Silver (this one is Bronze) with a chromium base (again bronze here)."
It was made in New York City in 1932, an Art Deco Dunhill Demuth lighter, manufactured by the William Demuth Co. in NYC which was owned by Schulte Cigar Store Inc, which also owned Dunhill.
