St. Damien of Molokai (1840-1889) holy medal 

Catholic saint - Apostle to the lepers, St. Joseph de Veuster. He was born in Belgium and died on the island of Molokai, Hawaii. He ministered to those in the leper colony, transforming it from a wretched place into a real community which offered the best treatments of the day, and offered the patients strong spiritual guidance. He died of leprosy.
