St. Kevin of Glendalough (c.498-618) holy medal

- Irish Catholic saint, memorial is June 3rd.

- patron of blackbirds, Ireland.

Kevin was the son of Leinster nobility. He was surrounded by fellow saints most of his life, and ordained a priest. He lived as a hermit for seven years in a cave at Glendalough, a Bronze Age tomb now known as Saint Kevin's Bed, to which an angel led him. As word of his holiness spread he attracted followers and eventually founded a monastery. He lived to age 120! He was more comfortable in the company of animals rather than men, and so there are many legends of him with animals. See CatholicSaints.Info » Blog Archive » Saint Kevin of Glendalough.
