Born as Lorenzo in Sicily in 1521, he was a civil and ecclesiastical lawyer. During one case on behalf of a friend he committed perjury in court. This shook him so badly that he gave up the legal profession and settled into a life of penance. He was then commissioned by his bishop to reform a lax convent in Naples. After much work he restored celibacy back to the house, but the people he evicted tried to kill him. He took refuge in a house of the Theatine Clerks Regular. He was so impressed by them that he joined the order and it is there that he took the name Andrew. He was a friend and advisor to St. Charles Borromeo. Andrew suffered a stroke while celebrating Mass and died shortly after. (catholicsaints.info/saint-andrew-avellino/)
