May saints beginning with St. Joseph the Worker

Who are some of the saints that we honor during the month of May?

We begin with St. Joseph the Worker on the first of the month. May 1st is one of the feast days of St. Joseph (the other is March 19). This feast is a recent addition to the Church calendar, instituted in 1955 by Pope Pius XII. May 1st is also known as May Day, the International Workers Day, which was celebrated in the Soviet Union. Pope Pius XII wanted to ensure that workers did not lose the Christian understanding of work.

May 3rd is the feast day of two of Jesus' apostles, James the Lesser and Phillip.

May 10th is the feast day of Damien of Molokai.
